A river with a female name, Neda delimits the border between the prefectures of Ilias and Messinias and is a true treasure of natural beauty in Peloponnese. The river springs from the mountain side of both prefectures close to Andritsena and ends up in the Ionian Sea at the beaches of the Kyparissian bay close to village Elea.
In its passing, Neda crosses a beautiful 32 km wide canyon with tight passages and waterfall sites, forming small, natural lakes. The Neda canyon can only be crossed during the summer through the river. Several spots of the course have a high danger rate as a result of cold waters, tight passages through the river and dark caverns. For those reasons, proper planning and equipment under a trained guide’s instructions are mandatory.
Even though it makes for a wonderful experience, resorting to extreme sports is not the only way through which someone can admire and feel the beauties of the river. The serenity of nature in all its glory is enough to transport you and make you feel as if you were in an actual paradise.
